Description

One of my favorite objects in the sky, the Crescent Nebula, also cataloged as NGC6888. Visible in the constellation Cygnus, it is located about 5,000 light-years away from Earth. Ionized hydrogen, the most visible element in the Universe, emits light primarily in the red wavelengths, visible in much of the image. Oxygen, on the other hand, emits light in the green and blue wavelengths of the spectrum and is visible as a “shell” around the nebula.
