Description

This object is a globular cluster located 9,500 light years away in the constellation of Sagittarius at a declination of -25 degrees. The cluster width in our apparent view is about 4 arc-minutes which corresponds to a true width of 11 light years. This makes it one of the smallest globular clusters. It is located less than 1 degree from M8 (Lagoon Nebula).

I find the dark area below and left of the cluster to be very intriguing. I searched for a designation for this dark region but I could not find any.
