Description

Still having some unsettled weather here in the desert which actually comes at an opportune time for a change, as the moon is on the wax. A good time for cleaning stuff and getting the SCT ready for galaxy season and all that.

One of the things I had to do was clean my corrector plate. I looked at it and thought the task quite daunting after inspecting the layer of schmutz that had collected there despite the lens cap being on it and the whole OTA being covered.

Googled how best to attack it and continued to think that no matter how I approached it, I would likely make it worse than it already was. Luckily, I came across this system that uses a polymer coating that you basically brush on, allow it to dry and then peel it off. Watched a video or two about it and then I saw that the product was available on Tolga's site. I made the purchase there which was very quick and easy to navigate. Not cheap but holy smokes, does it work great. The company that produces this is called Photonic Cleaning Technology and the kit came along with a ton of very valuable documentation and detailed instructions for its use. Highly recommended.

Then fine tuned the collimation and thought I would do a little lunar to test it out since there was a break in the clouds.

Clavius is a favorite of mine and I'm sure of many of you as well. No matter when you look at it, it is different from the last time as the shadows vary so greatly in that complex crater system. I think I had some more luck in that I caught it at the moment when the sun was beginning to illuminate the highest rims of the internal craters of Clavius. So I think perhaps an interesting view and I hope you like it too! The image is the best 7% of 5016 frames.

CS and good health...
