Description

This interacting pair of galaxies is also catalogued as Arp 271.
Distance: 112 million light years
Distance core to core of the two galaxies: about 75000 light years
Angular size of the galaxies: 3.0'x1.6' and 2.8'x2.4'
This picture registered in June 2021 would have deserved more observation time and can certainly be improved. I was done to test the performance of my setup (Meade LW200 10" at f/10, i.e. f=2500mm) on very small galaxies. Unfortunately the quality of the sky was poor and only 24 images out of 44 could be retained. Also the seeing was not good with a FWHM of the stars 12 to 14 pixels i.e. 5 to 6"
These two galaxies were recorded for the first time by Sir William Herschel on 5 March 1785.
