Description

One from our dark-sky trip to Big Bend in November. This galaxy is Messier 95 and is part of the Messier 96 galaxy group in the constellation Leo 33 million light years away. I really think it's a cool one because while it is a barred spiral galaxy, which is fairly common, it has the unusual feature of a ring that contains the bar. That gives it the appearance of the Greek letter phi (Φ).
