Description

This image might not look like much, but take a closer look. This is a region of the sky that is absolutely bursting with galaxies! The constellation Virgo lies above (below?) the plane of our own Milky Way, allowing us to see out into dark, intergalactic space without much gas or dust in the way. There are thousands of amateur-telescope-visible galaxies in this part of the sky! I was aiming for Markarian's Chain, but I appear to have missed it by accident!

Galaxies visible here range in distance from 57 million lightyears to 610 million lightyears or more in the case of the little teeny guys!
