Description

I wanted to try to get an image of the first quarter moon with the earthshine. I shot about 350 RAW images with my Canon 600D and Meade 8" LX200 and 0.8X FF/FR at ISO 200, 1/320s exposure. Then I bumped up the ISO to 3200 and increased exposure to 1/60s, and saw a bit of the earthshine in the individual subs. I took about 100 shots at this exposure.

I couldn't get these to align and stack in Autostakkert, so I used the non-stellar alignment feature in Nebulosity 4 for both the moon subs and earthshine subs, and stacked the best 100 moon subs. All I got from the earthshine was the outline of the darkened side and some hints of the darker features. But I think they're there... some creative masking was required at the terminator in GIMP to blend these images.

Suggestions for improvement are welcome!

Description: Figured out a better way of sharpening in GIMP and took care of the blue cast to the image.
