Description

Located around 7500 Light years from Earth in the Perseus Arm in the constellation of Cassiopeia the Heart Nebula was discovered by William Herschel on the 3rd of November 1787. The open cluster of stars at the center is called Melotte 15 and contains several massive stars that are 50 time the mass of our own Sun. This cluster drives the emission (bright red ionized hydrogen gas and darker dust lanes.

Currently IC 1805 is near the zenith and therefore an excellent winter target.
After 10 weeks without stars this was an absolute pleasure to photograph.
