Description

This is the first successful test image of my new QHY 268C. Out of the box, the default gain of this camera was set to 100. This made focusing in SGP nearly impossible, because the stars were so blown out. After some trial-and-error, I found that reducing the gain to 26 for broadband and 56 for narrowband imaging works well. I set the offset to 30 in both cases. I settled on "Photographic" mode because "High Gain" mode was too noisy for my tastes.

I am impressed with the low read noise and dynamic range of this camera, once I got the settings right. The Optolong L-eXtreme seems to be a great match for this camera. An HOO broadband image like this with a mono camera would normally take two nights to finish. With the QHY 268C and the L-eXtreme filter, about 4 hours of acquisition time gave me the results above.
