Description

My latest astrophotography project is on a familiar region of the constellation Cygnus, including the Cygnus Wall and the Pelican Nebula. I'm so excited to be able to share this image with you guys today, I truly think this is my first image that I'm nearly 100% happy with. There were frustrations during the image capture process, equipment issues, clouds and humidity, but all of that is very well worth it to be able to share this image today. This region is yet another hydrogen rich emission nebula, that is, a large cloud of gas that is being ionized by nearby stars, causing the atoms in the gas cloud to share electrons and glow during the process.

This image was captured during three nights, September 16th, 17th and 18th of 2019. I used the Optolong l-eNhance filter for 156 frames, each frame was 5 minutes long, for a total of 13 hours of data with the l-eNhance. I also took about 3 hours of broadband through the Optolong UV/IR Cut filter for star color. The broadband data was combined with the narrowband stuff in Photoshop using blend mode color and lighten.
