Description

Gold Canyon, Arizona

November 28 – December 1, 2020

IC 1795 was captured with narrowband filters, Hydrogen-alpha (Ha), Oxygen-III (OIII) and Sulfur-II (SII). This is a false color image using the Hubble Pallet, assigning SII to Red, Ha to Green and OIII to Blue.

The Fishhead Nebula is located at the tip of the Heart Nebula in the constellation Cassiopeia. This object became an interesting image processing project. This was the first time I had success with the Starnet process tool in PixInsight to create a starless image for handling luminance. While I had a large amount of high-quality data for all three filters, the SHO combination had so much green, that after green removal, the image lacked much color. By using the ColorMask script, I was able to adjust the tones, hue and saturation in different regions. The data ended up guiding me to produce a multi-color image. I also used the HDRMultiscaleTransform and HistogramEqualization tools in PixInsight to sharpen the details of the luminance image before combining with the blurred RGB color image. I may return to this image to soften the details slightly.
