Description

NGC 2903 is the brightest galaxy in Leo, the largest one as well, very easy to locate - and oddly Charles Messier missed to add it to his list. NGC 2916 in the upper left corner looks like a close companion, but the visual vicinity is an illusion. In fact, NGC 2916 is a large and luminous radio-galaxy, which lies way remote in the background, at a distance of some 130 Million Lj. from the sun. Even PGC 27249 with m16.0 can be discerned SSE of NGC 2916, 170 Million Lj. off.
