Description

This Astrobin Debut Object, also known as UGC 8335, is a pair of small interacting galaxies located almost a half billion light years away in the constellation of Ursa Major at a declination of +62 degrees. Each magnitude 15 galaxy spans about 1 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a Milky Way size diameter for each of 130,000 light years.

In his Arp catalog, Dr. Arp classified this object into the category of Galaxies with Appearance of Fission.

The interesting features of this image are the star stream bridge and the extra galaxy arm in the bottom galaxy. The detail of the Hubble image in the mouseover is impressive and one of the better Hubble Arp images that I have seen. This is truly a spectacular object and I wish we were closer to it.
