Description

Close-up depicting the region surrounding the Apollo 11 landing site. For this image, I was able to get the collimation on the C8 scope dialed in reasonably well. Seeing conditions were not as favorable and moderate winds in the area made imaging difficult. Nevertheless, it is possible to (just barely) make out the craters Collins (2.4 km diameter), Aldrin (3.4 km), and Armstrong (4.6 km.) The moon was 41% illuminated at this point, and approximately 38 degrees above the horizon. The image is a 2 frame mosaic of the region.

I was having some difficulty with data transfer from the camera during imaging, so I only was able to get a limited number of frames (typically 300) for stacking. I stacked the best 20% to get the final image.

Some parts of the image are a bit over-exposed. I did not do on-the-fly de-bayering, so it was a bit challenging to tell if I was getting the gain / exposure length correct. A partial listing of camera settings is given below:
