Description

M15 (also designated NGC 7078) was discovered in 1746 by Jean-Dominique Maraldi and later included Messier's catalog in 1764. Professional astronomers estimate that this object is over 10 billion years old, making it one of the oldest known globular clusters in the night sky. The cluster is approximatley 175 lights years in diameter and is located about 33,600 light years from earth. The core of this cluster has undergone a collapse and astronomers believe that there is a black hole lurking in the center.
