The M81 Group of galaxies - First light of my CEM70

I had just received my new mount, the iOptron CEM70, a few days ago when a nice clear sky window happened. So I had to test it !

As my field of view is quite limited by the buildings that surround my garden downtown in a very urban area, I had to chose something that won't disappear quickly behind the roofs, which eliminates a lot of potential objects.

I have chosen the M81 group : I haven't taken galaxies for a while, and this group is nicely placed at this time of the year for me to image during a long winter night.

The night seemed to be absolutely clear, but seeing my lights afterward, I think there has been some fog, or maybe due on my refractor (though it had heating bands...), which has ruined lots of the night...

On top of that, I still don't use correctly the mount and the guiding with the ASIAIR Pro... I still have a high RMS. I will have to learn how to tweak nicely the paramters of guiding with my CEM70.

By the way, I have elongated stars, from bottom left to top right, and I don't know if that's bad polar alignement on 60sec lights, or guiding issues, or setting the timeout after dithering too low... Lots of things to learn.

In order to reduce these effects, I have used my H alpha master to reduce stars in Photoshop...

I know this is cheating, but otherwise, I wouldn't have been able to post this one...

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
