Description

First light data for my 2600 mc camera on M42 and running man. This is a reprocess with addition of individual stacked lights, with matching darks, no flats.

My (new to me) workflow details:

Camera set at "0" gain.

1. Astropixel processor stacking of all lights, with matching darks, no flats.

-stacked 10 x 30 sec

-stacked 10 x 60 sec

-stacked 10 x 180 sec

-stacked 10 x 300 sec data (used this as a reference for registration).

2. Auto stretch in Pixinsight to see whats up. I was surprised how nice the 30 second stacks were... lots of data!

3. I put together these images in PI using a manual stretch and HDRComposition which involves registering all to the 300 sec master. I saved all the registered files alone.

4. Generated the combined image... core looks OK.

5. Photometric colour calibration tool in PI was used to achieve the corrected star colours.

5. Then went back in, to reduce the greens with PI (SCNR in PI).

6. Wasn't happy with the noise levels, so went back in and masked the nebula, and then carried out a detailed noise reduction using a mask. The tool is Multiscale Linear Transform... its really nice.

I used settings recommended by a friend. They can also be found in Shawn Neilson's video...

7. I cropped in PI to bring the DSO front and centre. Dynamic crop tool.

Notes: Many of my revisions were lost, my fault I think, but some were very kindly revived somehow by Salvatore, thanks so much!

Thanks for looking!

Description: In this iteration I continued to plumb the depths of Pixinsight by learning how to use Median Linear Transform, creating a mask for the nebula, and incorporating some useful setttings for noise reduction. Then I cropped the image for a closer look. Any feedback is welcome, thank you.
