Description

This is an optical image of the Cas-A supernova remnant in Cassiopeia, one of the strongest radio sources in the sky. Since I work at an Astronomical  Radio Observatory (ASTRON) this is a source that is often mentioned as it is used as a calibration source. It also interferes with observations of faint sources in the field of view of our LOFAR radio telescope, and is subtracted from the observations.

Sky conditions were not great due to fog and cirrus in the last few weeks, a lot of gradient is the result.
But it's nice to see this object in colour. I need to redo this when the telescope is back at it's remote location.

17 x 600s R and G, 16 x 600s B and 27 x 600s L on September 28 and October 8 and 9.
I will need to make new flats to get a cleaner version...

Revison B shows the full field.

Revison C and D, new calibration files.
