Description

Space Pooch

Read about Baade's Window in the latest issue of Australian Sky and Telescope and while looking at it in Telescopius.com I noticed LDN1795

With a big day at work today, I decided to keep it simple last night and see what I could get on it.

Always struck me as looking like a dog, which of course reminded me of Laika, cosmonaut pooch and first earthling to orbit the globe.

Sadly, the dysregulated temperature in her capsule took her life after perhaps two orbits, otherwise she had enough breathable air for seven days.

Laika never made it even close to Sagittarius, which is where her visage gazes upon us forever more, proudly showing humanity that life could survive in space. Open Cluster NGC6451 also visible at right of frame.

See a picture of Laika at space.com
