Description

Heart Nebula - IC 1805

At a distance of ~7,500 light years away, the Heart Nebula is an emission nebula in the shape of a heart: Radiation from the cluster of stars in the center is absorbed by the surrounding hydrogen gas and is re-emitted in red colour.

The bright area in the upper left corner of the image is a star forming region known as the "Fishhead" nebula (for obvious reasons).
