Description

The Soap Bubble Nebula (Jurasevich 1, PN G075.5+1.7) is a planetary nebula in the constellation Cygnus, near the Crescent Nebula ( NGC 6888 ). It was discovered by amateur astronomer Dave Jurasevich using an Astro-Physics 160 mm refractor telescope who imaged the nebula on June 19, 2007 and on July 6, 2008. An exhaustive search on the Internet could not identify this extremely weak object on amateur or professional sites or in published literature. A full report was submitted at the IAU in July 2008, with recognition as a new discovery on July 16, 2009 by the International Astronomical Union. And on July 26, 2013 CDS (Centre de Donnees Astronomiques de Strasbourg, the world referenece database for the identification of astronomical objects and host to the SIMBAD on-line database) officially designated PN G075.5+1.7 as Ju1 (Jurasevich 1).
