Description

The Needle has been on my short list and it seemed like a good couple of nights to try the C9.25HD at f/7 on it, although the 120sec subs at gain 240 washed out the saturation of the bright blue stars more than I anticipated. I'll have to return for imaging those better.

Nevertheless it's a keeper! I've retained a slightly wider field to show more of the other background galaxies nearby.

I like the curvy star trails and smaller galaxies in this view.

This was my first try of Topaz Labs Denoise AI. It did a really good job of pulling out details of the dust lanes in the Needle, so much so that I became skeptical that it was possibly "inventing" details unfaithful to reality. So before posting this image I took a look at other Astrobin images (and an APOD image) from larger (~14+") aperture 'scopes to validate that indeed it did a faithful sharpening, at least to my eyes.

For those interested, I discovered that Denoise AI works better on the original camera sensor resolution and not as well on a 2x drizzle stack. The best workflow was to use the drizzle stack for most post processing then downsample it before running Denoise AI.
