Description

It was discovered by Pierre Méchain in 1781. Located at a distance of approximately 25 million light-years, Messier 106 (a.k.a. NGC 4258) is a spiral galaxy in the constellation Canes Venatici. It has been noted that M106 is often overlooked because it does not have cool nickname. There is, however, lots to like about this galaxy. It is a type II Seyfert galaxy with a characteristically bright, active core and supermassive blackhole in the center.
