This has been a fun project, one that is incomplete but an interesting one from a post-processing perspective nonetheless.
I created a luminance layer from my colour data, I applied some contrast and brightness to it as well as sharpened the image. This layer I added back to the colour data and the galaxy really popped. The intention was to use my l-enhance and extract the Ha from the exposures but I think the star forming regions (red) of the galaxy have been collected quite well. The arms of the galaxy need a bit more data but between a moon, hazy skies, intermittent clouds and terrible light pollution, I will be waiting for a very long time to get them exposed - another reason to get a mono camera!
While I would like to add more data to this, overall I am very pleased with the effort and the result and its something I can look forward to capturing again when conditions are right.
Data is collected over 5 nights. (theoretically I have about 10 hrs per night of imaging so you can imagine the frustration!)
I hope its pleasing to the eye.
