Description

Recently on a cool, clear evening I was getting my scope out with some help from my son (who has gotten pretty good at setting up I'm happy to say). As we ventured outside into the dark, he stopped at the door and told me "Daddy we can't go outside at night because the boogie mans might get you!" I stared at him flabbergasted for a minute and asked "what's a boogie man?" He replied "It's a bad guy." "Where did you hear about the boogie man?" I pressed. I received a shrug and then he ran off to play with his toy cars while I finished setting up. I thought to myself "He can't start being afraid of the boogie man at only 3! I didn't know about the boogie man until I was like 7! I've got to nip this in the bud before it gets out of control..." So I decided to show him how cool a boogie man can be by imaging LDN1622, the Boogie Man Nebula. This one proved challenging due to its low brightness and a lack of sufficient integration time. However I'm happy to say that it did the trick! He thinks it's the coolest picture I've done and I haven't heard about the spooky boogie man since! #astrophotographyparentingwin
