Description

The first time that I took a shot at the Wizard was as far as I can remember with difficulties due to setup, filter wheel, bad weather, etc, you all know what I am talking about 😊. Hence I had to come back to it since I believe that this is one of the most wonderful nebula in the sky, it has a special flair that I cannot describe (maybe the name Wizard plays a role here ... just kidding 😊). One thing I learned over the last year is that filter wheels seem to be great since you can automate all the sequences. But it also leads to 2 major flaws: 1. Since the filters are not par-focal (at least not mine!) every change of the filter needs refocusing, which I usually did not do since I leave the scope out in the yard overnight a lot of time to gain more integration time, and I did not want to get up at all those times (there is still work to do during the week). Especially my last trials lead to badly focused SII data, which I always regretted. 2. It leads you to not take enough integration time, each filter 2-3 hours should be enough, or? Well, it makes life much easier if you have more integration time. Hence I do not use any filter wheels anymore, rather the Baader UFC in this case or my Starizona filter slider (which is pretty good as well) and leave it in for the whole night. Next night is then the next filter. Processing was a tick more difficult than I thought it would be, but this is part of the journey of fun!

I still will add to this image RGB data with the Z61 and some extra wide field with the RASA in Hα and OIII, was waiting for the moon to go away and well ... yes ... for better weather, still in tropical storms times ...
