Description

A close up of rarely showcased structures in the Elephant's Trunk Nebula. The nebula is chalk full of fascinating and mystifying structures. This is a fairly aggressive crop along the edge of the nubla opposite the tip of the Name 'de Plume. For me, one of the most amazing aspect of this FOV, as well as many other close up views of deep sky objects, is the size of the region depicted--simply gargantuan. If Earth was located near the edge of one of the pillars, the entire solar system would no even be visible at the scale of this image. Also, due to the nature of light, gas, and dust, many of the features of this scene would not even be visible to the eye at close quarters--they would simply be to dim to see. The amazement has no end.
