Description

My first image of this beautiful colorful field in the centre of the Milky Way. The contrast of the old yellow partially-unresolved stars of the Milky Way, the dark clouds of dust, and the bright young blue stars which ionize the surrounding red gas is stunning. I was pleased with the amount of Ha gas I was able to capture, despite using a pure broadband colour approach (no narrowband data, on a modded DSLR).

Some of the frames were shot in one of the coldest nights of the year on my location, with ambient temperatures near or slightly below freezing 0C: the DSLR sensor, despite being uncooled, averaged at just +8C. The image is part of a series of targets shot during the (southern) winter season, which are currently in my processing queue. Expect some hopefully nice new images in the near future [I am excited about a couple of them myself] ;)
