Description

In a couple of the last few nights I wanted to dedicate some shots to a little known and even less photographed subject. It is Leo I, a spheroidal dwarf galaxy in the constellation of Leo, about 820000 light years from us, which is part of the Local Group and is thought to be one of the most distant satellite galaxies of the Milky Way.
In the sky it is only 12 arcsec above the star Regulus (on the right in my photo), for this reason the galaxy is sometimes called Regulus's dwarf, and precisely the proximity between the two makes Leo I difficult to identify, given the great brightness of the main star of Leo.
