Description

NGC 6960 is a nebula of ionized gas and dust located about 1,400 light-years from Earth in the constellation Cygnus. It is the portion of the The Cygnus Loop called Western Veil. The other two portions are The Eastern Veil and the Pickering Triangle.

The Cygnus Loop (in which the Western Veil nebula is found) forms a remnant of supernova, the explosion of which dates back some ten thousand years. This object is very large and very fragmented.
