Description

I've never gone out to deliberately image a supernova before so with a bright one currently close to M60 I thought why not - I also get to tick off M59 and M60 for good measure Astronomical darkness is in short supply this time of year and like comets it's an interesting alternative to star clusters for short broadband targets.

SN2022hrs is a Type 1a supernova in NGC4647 currently around magnitude +13 - brighter than the host galaxy. It was bright enough that I could spot it in my plate-solving and autofocus images! M59 and M60 are both elliptical galaxies.

The host image is LRGB of the whole field while the inset is a cropped negative of the 1.5x drizzled red channel that had the nicest looking stars. SN2022hrs is at the intersection of the two lines.

https://www.rochesterastronomy.org/sn2022/sn2022hrs.html has magnitude +12.5 for 29 April.
ASTAP suggesting magnitude +12.7 from this so I'm well satisfied Make that +12.5 when I use the correct V17 database in ASTAP
