Description

Most images of M42 are tailored to capturing the nebulosity in this famous object. The Trapezium sits at the core of this star forming region and this image was made with short exposures so that it is displayed prominently.

The Trapezium is probably at its best when viewed directly through the eyepiece of a telescope.

The telescope used here is a Celestron C5 Schmidt-Cassegrain. It gives nice views and images of nebulae although the central obstruction has a softening effect on images so that the stars are less sharp.
