Description

This object is a globular star cluster located 30,000 light years away in the constellation of Sagittarius at a declination of -25 degrees. The cluster spans 7 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of 60 light years.

I find the uniformity and density of the background stars in this portion of the Milky Way to be very interesting. The cluster appears small and tight against this background and the stars are resolved to the core. Most of the background has a bit of an orange tint, with the except of a few bright white stars.
