Description

This object, nicknamed the Pelican Nebula, is a beautiful emission nebula located 1800 light years away in the constellation of Cygnus at a declination of +44 degrees. The dark clouds of this nebula conceal a large region of active star formation.

The highlight of the object is Herbig-Haro 555, a pair of bi-polar gas jets at the tip of the long trunk of towering dark dust extending to the left. This indicates the presence of a unseen protostar - a star birthed from a cold collapsing cloud of hydrogen gas.

A month ago I posted an image of the same area taken with the same camera, but using my Tak 130 instead of my C11 EdgeHD, so it gives a good comparison of the fields of view of these 2 scopes. I downsampled this image 2x, so the pixel dimensions of these 2 images is not the same.
