I was excited this year to give this nebula another try after my laughable attempt last year ( see below). I spent three full nights on the capture, 1 for Ha and 2 for O3. I really like the final stack, but I am not quite sure how a feel about the final product. The color was just never quite how I wanted it, but I really like using the crazy HOO formula for this image. I probably was trying to hard to bring forward the saturation of the squid while maintain the transparency. I just used the Ha stars, but next clear night I plan to collect RGB stars to the image as it deserves.
In the end, I really like the transparency toward the bottom of the Squid. Not bad for my first 20+ hr project.
The Squid Nebula is a quite faint O3 nebula was discovered in 2011. The nebula is an estimated 2,300 light years from earth and approximately 50 light years across.
