Description

A wide-field view of the heavily crater south pole region of the lunar face.

An assortment of well known craters:

Clavius, Tycho, Pitatus, Longomontanus, Purbach, Arzachel, Stofler and others.

Rays from the Tycho impact can be seen radiating northward and delicately coating the relatively flattish floors of Stofler, Walther, Cuvier and the Deslandres craters. The central peak within Moretus crater on the lunar limb, at the 4 O'clock position, is very close to the lunar south pole.
