Description

Abell 85, sometimes known as the Medulla nebula, is a faint supernova remnant almost 10,000 light years away.  It appears around the same size as the moon, just north of the right-most star of the famous W of Cassiopeia.  In reality, it is over 300 billion times further away than the moon and hence also 300 billion times bigger.

This image is the first collaboration between James (@clarkjames70 on Twitter), Clem (@astrofisching) and Ollie (@carefreeastro) with data collection spread over several nights from early November to mid December 2022, from our three home locations, using 7 scopes, 6 cameras, 5 mounts and lots of patience with the UK weather.

In total we collected just under 200 hours of data with over 50 hours rejected, using 142.5 hours worth for this final image.  In processing, we loved the look of the luminance image, so I've included this too.
