Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a face-on barred ring spiral galaxy located 75 million light years away in the constellation of Eridanus at a declination of -20 degrees.  It is a magnitude 11.7 galaxy which spans 2.7 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a diameter of 60,000 light years.

Many aspects of this object are fascinating me:
- The bar is offset across the core. Each side is not in linear alignment with the other.
- An inner, pointed ring surrounds the bar.
- The bar does not extend across the entire inner ring.
- Bright blue ansae are seen in the ring where it would intersect the bar, if the bar did extend across.
- Several bright star clouds are seen in the ring.
