Description

NGC6503 is located near the 'Local Void' in the Draco constellation at ~18 MM l-y from Earth. This dwarf spiral edge-on galaxy is 'alone' near the 'Local Void', an area of space depleted in stars and galaxies. Most galaxies occur in groups but NGC6503 is name 'solitaire' as it stands alone near a huge patch of darkness some 150 MM ly across.

NGC 6503 has a magnitude of 10.2 and apparent size of 7 x 2.4'. NGC 6503 is colorful with star forming regions (Ha) in the spirals and brown lanes of dusts create a 'flocculent' texture (reference NASA and Wikipedia).
