Description

The Rosette nebula. This one taken with a Canon 100-400mm lens at 400mm. Definitely not the best for capturing nice round stars - I'm not sure if the blur is due to poor tracking or the imaging system (I suspect the latter). But great to see how much detail still came through.

Final version was produced in PixInsight as follows after stretching and noise reduction:

    [li]- split RGB into separate channels[/li]

    [li]- construct Ha as 89% R, 9% G and 2% B using PixelMath[/li]

    [li]- construct OIII as 2% R ,62% G and 36% B using PixelMath[/li]

    [li]- clone Ha and linear fit using OIII as the reference image to produce a fake SII (essentially, a weaker version of Ha)[/li]

    [li]- linear fit OIII using Ha as the reference image (produces a stronger version of OIII)[/li]

    [li]- combine in PixelMath following this tutorial, using OIII as the dynamic image f, and the following formulas:

      [li]-- R: f * SII + ~f * Ha     <- this one is key to getting the blue colour to show up[/li]

      [li]-- G: 0.7 * OIII + 0.3 * Ha[/li]

      [li]-- B: OIII[/li]
