Description

In this image, I was able to capture several solar filaments along with some small prominences in a mid-afternoon imaging session on 24 July 2021. In this case, I used a monochrome camera equipped with an IMX178 sensor coupled with a DayStar Quark H-alpha chromosphere filter. These were attached to my 80 mm (480 mm FL)  refractor, along with two extension tubes to achieve the necessary back focus.

The final image is a composite of two exposures (with the chromosphere data inverted to provide a smooth transition to the prominences at the edge.) I stacked the best 50% of all frames in AutoStakkert3! and performed sharpening with Registax 6. Final image editing was done with Photoshop. Coloring in the image is introduced artificially for asthetic appeal.
