Description

A Study of the Heart and Soul Part 1 of 9 - The Atrium Wall

In December 2020, I spent many nights shooting a monster 18-panel mosaic of the H&S region with the small WO Z61 refractor. I wanted to capture not only both main nebulas, but also the faint nebulosity that surrounds them and streams out of them. While I was doing that, I decided to home in the C11 on smaller, interesting regions of those nebulas as part of a more rigorous study.

This is the first--and most disappointing--of those images. It focuses on the left "atrium" wall of IC 1805, the Heart Nebula. I'm not sure why this one came out so much more poorly than the others. Perhaps it was seeing conditions. But it does still offer some interesting features and reveals more about the structure of the exterior walls of the two main objects, the Heart & Soul.
