Description

My new project is CTB-1, a supernova remnant. Considering the fact that it' s 10.000 light years away in combination with the fact that it takes up a diameter of around half a degree on our night sky (similar to the moon), lets me say "What a blast!!!". This explosion is 100 light years in size.

George Abell catalogued it as a planetary nebula, Abell 85, but it later became aparent that it's indeed a supernova remnant.

Rumors say, that a pulsar was created within the supernova and was ejected from the bubble at a 1000 km/s causing the rupture in the bubble that gives it it's descriptive name "The Popped Balloon Nebula"

Imaging this object turned out to be extremely challenging. There is so little light to capture. It will take me a longer time to complete this project. After 7.5h of capturing H-Alpha only, the basic shape slowly becomes visible.

Oh dear, what have I gotten myself into with this one?
