Description

There are a couple of interesting objects in this image.

The green blob is M97, the Owl Nebula. It is a planetary nebula, formed when a star begins shedding its outer gases. Note: this isn't false color; the nebula actually appears green.

I've fallen in love with William Parson's original sketch of this nebula: http://www.messier.seds.org/more/m097_rosse.html

Towards the bottom of the image is M108, the Surfboard Galaxy. I just learned the name.
