Description

Last night we had a strong G3-level geomagnetic storm which sparked some incredibly colorful aurora. Eventually it reached G4 (severe), but by then the skies were no longer that dark in Finland. After my shift ended at 5pm I walked into the wilderness where I would wait for a space rocket to be launched at 8:23pm, which they finally managed to launch. Unfortunately the skies at these latitudes aren't that dark that early anymore so the contrast between the sky and the blue clouds left by the rocket was low, but still got some photos of it. The rocket was launched from Kiruna, Sweden with the purpose of studying the aurora.

After getting home at 3am I was so exhausted by walking in deep snow for many many hours and actually had to return while walking in the dark as I realized my headlight is not in my backpack and phone got exhausted in the cold (it was -34 degrees celsius). What an adventure.

This was the strongest geomagnetic storm in 6 years
