Description

More practice working on widefield Milkyway technique. I seem to have figured out the sweet spot for round stars and focusing at night but still need to work on capturing ground detail. Maybe 1 long exposure would help reduce noise to a manageable level.

I took the opportunity while APT was hard at work capturing DSOs to head to a quiet end of the observing field (actually it's probably an imaging field as at least 90% of people are imaging at Cherry Springs) I was right around rationing.forgotten.nominations looking South East. My aim was to get the Milkyway rising over the fence framed by trees on both sides. I was hoping I would get some natural illumination of the foreground but it's so dark that I had to pan my black light across the frame to pick up foreground detail. Not ideal but maybe a long exposure for the foreground would help this. I've picked up a new wide angle lens and intend to have another go at Stellafane. Slightly different scene there as any shot is likely to include people and a healthy serving of artificial light.
