Description

I was fortunate to have a chance to observe this on the 12/20/2020. Although they were not as close as they are on the 21st- last night had the benefit of the Great Red Spot facing Earth. These images are from still images I processed using a DSLR camera through the Schulman Telescope

at the Mount Lemmon SkyCenter.

I have been showing these planets to the public for my entire lifetime. To visually see these "old friends" in an eyepiece with an excellent telescope and site- just crazy amazing. The kind of stuff that you want to etch into memory... the pictures... but that view!. Now, Jupiter will slowly pass Saturn...and another few decades will elapse before Jupiter overtakes and they are close again...but not this close... not for our lifetimes.
