Description

Imaged on nights of 2021/2/26, 2021/2/27, 2021/3/1, 2021/3/2, 2021/3/5, 2021/3/6, 2021/3/8

Abell 38 (PK346.9+12.4) is an almost never imaged planetary nebula in Scorpio. This is only the second image on Astrobin. Abell38 is a medium sized Abell, measuring 2.6 arc minutes and has a magnitude listed at 15.5. It shows some on the RGB image. There is no significant Oiii signal. The Ha emission appears in the shape of a very irregular oval.

This Abell was a particular challenge for me because it transits at 22 degrees at my observatory in Taos, NM. This required 7 nights of imaging and many poor subs discarded. Well worth the effort though. It has some interesting detail. This is probably the lowest target I have ever attempted.

My Abell Collection is here:

Abell Planetary Nebulae

Currently 60+, and soon to be complete.

This is everything I could find on the web about this PN. Very obscure.
