Description

Along the edge of a large molecular cloud in the constellation Cepheus, and nearby to the Veil nebula sits a large amount of galactic dust... the portion in the middle which makes up the reflection nebula often referred to as the Ghost Nebula. This concentration of dust is lit up by bright stars nearby, of which a few are sitting right in the middle of it causing interesting light cones to emerge through from our vantage point. There are two formations on the inner most dust cloud that many say look like cats, and others say tormented souls... either case I most enjoy the apparent rays of dust coming down on them from the bat-signal shaped region at the top of the frame, and the faint whisp of a spirit flying overhead. My favorite formation however is the lighter white whisp on the left side of the field above the bright white star in that area.

* 5 Layer Gaussian Wavelet Regularization with noise thresholds (13,12,9,6,4) and reduction (1,1,0.8,0.8,0.6)

* Filled in the ringing left behind with PixelMath ``L_Orig`` and a star mask created by ``L_Orig |> Histogram Stretched |> Starnet in StarMask mode |> MT Maximize |> Convolve``

* Noise Reduction using TGVDenoise using

* Additional sharpening/smoothing with MMT targeting the middle 6 of 8 wavelets and a star mask

* HSV Repair Separation script using defaults and Recombining: H, Sv and Unrepaired_V

* Stretched with ArcSinh (50) followed up with a histogram transformation

* Between stretches performed additional ACDNR noise reduction:

* L Bright Sides Edge Protection Threshold: 0.001

* LRGB Combination of Processed Luminance with RGB (no chrominance noise reduction)

* Curves to boost the contrast and saturation throughout the field

* Remove faint magenta noise with inverted SCNR targetting green inverted (with a mask to protect highlights)

* HDR to bring out contrast in the central nebula pillar with 7 layers and a convolved/binarized star mask

* Lift the overall faint dust with Exponential Transformation:

* Smoothing: 1.5

* With Lightness Mask
