Description

A young stellar nursery some 3000 light years from us. Located in Cepheus, this complex is also known as SH2-171.

This image was captured with the CDK14 with a custom configured imaging train that enables an off axis guider to be used in conjunction with the dedicated Planewave 0.66x focal reducer.

A significant total integration time of 44 hours with the low noise QHY600m (gain56) and 3nm Chroma filters allowed a good amount of faint details to be extracted. The complex clouds seen in the background were better illustrated here with the extra SNR.

I also attempted this image with the CDK12.5 previously with a smaller sensor and less integration time; However, this CDK14 image with the large IMX455 exhibits better resolution and SNR. This image has been downsampled significantly from the the captured scale of 0.46"/pixel.
